Waterfront Events and Activations Review

Waterfront Events and Activations Review

Updated: August 20, 2026

The Waterfront Events and Activations Review – Background and Recommendations, prepared by our team at the Waterfront BIA, summarizes the current status and growth trajectory of Toronto’s waterfront as a location for events and activations, both big and small, and where our Waterfront Business Improvement Area (WBIA) can re-focus to be most supportive as a local partner

The BIA evaluates how ‘activity hubs’ are growing or emerging within or bordering our BIA, and where the gap areas between these hubs can be utilized to compliment a ‘waterfront-wide’ experience wherever possible (Ontario Place/Exhibition Place, the Malting Silos near the Island Airport, Harbourfront Centre, and the new Ookwemin Minising area just south of Distillery District).

“We are beginning to see the waterfront as a growing network or ‘system’ of inter-connected pieces that support events and activations as an ecosystem.”
