Jane’s Walk is an annual event that honours the legacy of urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs. It celebrates the diversity and vibrancy of cities and encourages people to walk, observe, and engage with their communities.

Janes Walk - Friday, May 1

Early Bird Downtown Toronto Walk + The PATH

Join Nicolas Bello for a guided downtown Toronto walk that moves from street level into the PATH.

Starting at Dr. Lillian McGregor Park, this 2.5-hour walk explores parks, new developments, and hidden downtown details before continuing through the PATH to the waterfront, ending at 10 Bay Street.

Toronto Islands Sunset Stroll. Dog friendly

Join Nicolas Bello for a sunset walk across the Toronto Islands, a yearly Jane’s Walk tradition exploring one of the city’s most scenic spots.

Starting at Jack Layton Ferry Terminal, the group will take the 6:45 PM ferry to Hanlan’s Point and walk across the islands to Ward’s Island, passing unique homes, hidden landmarks, and waterfront views along the way. The walk wraps with the 9:45 PM ferry back to the city.

Dog friendly 🐶 (leashed, well-behaved dogs welcome). Bring comfortable shoes and a flashlight for low-light areas.

Janes Walk - Saturday, May 2

Between the New River and the Movies: Meet the Port Lands’ McCleary District

Join the City of Toronto, CreateTO, and project partners for a guided walk through the transforming McCleary District in the Port Lands, a former industrial area now being reshaped into a flood-protected, complete waterfront community.

Starting at Don Roadway and Lakeshore Blvd E, the walk follows the newly naturalized Don River and Don Roadway, highlighting Indigenous and ecological history, the future McCleary District plan, early public art from the Lassonde Art Trail, and the area’s growing creative film hub. The walk ends at 400 Commissioners.

Biidaasige Park Wetland Walk with Turtle Protectors

Join Carolynne Crawley and Jenny Davis for a guided walk through Biidaasige Park focused on local turtle conservation and wetland habitat restoration.

Starting and ending at Old Fire Hall 30, the walk explores new turtle habitat in the Port Lands, the challenges facing all eight at-risk turtle species, and how the redesigned landscape is supporting their return. Participants will also learn how to help protect local wildlife through simple, everyday actions.

Listening to water stories at Biidaasige Park

Join Treva Legassie for a guided walk through Biidaasige Park exploring the deep water history of Toronto’s waterfront and Don River mouth.

Starting at Commissioners Street Bridge and ending at Cherry Street South Bridge, the walk follows the newly restored river landscape while tracing its transformation from glacier-fed waters to marshland, industrial Port Lands, and today’s revitalized park.

Blending storytelling, archival history, and guided listening exercises, this walk invites participants to experience the site through sound, water, and time.

The Making of Biidaasige Park

Join Danny Brown for a guided walk through Biidaasige Park, Toronto’s largest new park in over a generation and a major piece of climate-resilient infrastructure shaping the future of the Port Lands.

Starting and ending at Old Fire Hall 30, the walk explores the transformation of the Lower Don River and surrounding waterfront, from glacial and marshland systems to industrial Port Lands and today’s ongoing renaturalization and revitalization.
