Global Convenience: Toronto's New Floating Artwork

Something unexpected is floating on Toronto's harbourfront

This summer, you can spot a floating convenience store on Toronto's waterfront.

It's not a real and operational convenience store, but an incredible art installation exploring themes of arrival, migration, and daily rituals.

Global Convenience coincides with a moment when Toronto welcomes the world as a Host City of the FIFA World Cup. Corner stores exist around the world, a shared global experience.

The miniature convenience store has incredible amounts of detail, moored in the harbour. From the outside, visitors can see familiar convenience store features: flower stands, signage, graffiti, trashcan, and more.

Global Convenience was created by Toronto based artists Trevor Wheatley and Cosmo Dean in collaboration with Puncture (Rashad Maharaj & Spencer Cathcart).

The artists researched convenience stores around the world, ensuring Global Convenience feels authentic and lived in.

Wheatley and Dean are known for large-scale environmental installations that reimagine familiar symbols and spaces, often using repurposed materials.
